ABOUT JP

Welcome to Jamaica Plain! In the 19th Century the street car changed this wealthy country estate and farming community to one the first American suburbs. Known as “Eden of America”, this area is home to a majority of Boston’s famous Emerald Necklace parks designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. The lush Arnold Arboretum owned by the city of Boston and managed by Harvard University, and the serene, recreational Jamaica Pond are enjoyed by many city residents.

Besides the beautiful greenery, “JP” as it is known locally has the thriving and multi-cultural business of Centre Street with many unique shops, cafes, and restaurants.

A more recent and fun addition is the emergence of several breweries.

The triple decker house, marketed here as condominiums, first appeared in Jamaica Plain in the 1870’s and quickly became an example of popular urban New England architecture.
